Sir Bill Beaumont is one of rugby’s most respected figures. A former England captain, British Lions captain, TV personality and Businessman, he was awarded a knighthood in the 2019 Honours list for services to the game. Previously he had accepted a CBE for services to sport and rugby in 1982, he was later awarded a CBE in the 2008 royal birthday celebrations.
Beaumont’s sporting career is most notably remembered for his Grand Slam captaincy of the England Lions team in 1980; since retiring from rugby, Beaumont has gone on to become the very popular team captain on the quiz show A Question of Sport, on which he appeared for 14 years in what was perhaps it’s most highly watched era.
In 1999 Beaumont became the English representative of the International Rugby Board and in 2012 he became chairman of the Rugby Football Union; after captaining the English and Irish Lions to success in South Africa in 1980 Beaumont went on to become tour manager of the team for their 2005 tour of New Zealand.
He is also chairman of his family’s company, Bill Beaumont Textiles. As one of Britain’s most popular and recognised sports personalities Bill is perfect for a range of speaking events.
